City Tri Club prides itself on being a small, personal, family-oriented club. For the third year, we will be offering our very successful TRYstars programme for kids aged 7 to 14. Our seniors get the benefit of great training sessions, and a fantastic social calendar.

We’re very approachable at CTC. If you’re looking to join a friendly, progressive club, we’re the one for you. Please feel free to give any one of our committee members a call and discuss what City has to offer.

We’re geographically centered on Perth, with training in Inglewood, Bayswater, Perry Lakes and South Perth.

Club History

The Faye Richwhite Corporate teams triathlon held at the Hillarys Boat Harbour (March 92) saw the first R&I Bank Teams complete their first triathlons. The following year saw seven teams enter under the Tri R&l banner. Many of the members rested all year to peak at the right time for the Fay Richwhite. To be fair, there were the odd few members who competed regularly during the course of the tri season. This was the beginning of the now very successful City Tri Club.

In an attempt to attract more regular attendees at triathlons and to open the club to female membership, it was decided the Tri R&I name had to be replaced. After an exhaustive process, it was agreed that the new name should be City Tri Club, as it symbolized the catchment area of where the training venues would be based.

At this time WATA was holding a training course for women wishing to compete in the Women's Only Tri at Matilda Bay. The first female members came from this course, those being Debbie Jackson, Sandra Peake and Gail Chinery who were all on our first committee and were instrumental in getting the club up and running.

On 12th September an Inaugural Meeting was held at Warren & Debbie Jackson’s house in Bassendean and on this day the first six members paid their membership, W&D Jackson. P&M Latham, G Chinery and C Brown. On the 23rd Spetember 1992, the first monies for City Tri Club were banked in an account opened in the name of City Tri Club.

Over a 4-8 week period, the original sponsors of Running Styles, Bike Force Morley and Cisco’s Mexican Restaurant had been written to and sponsorship details were finalized.

Coaches were appointed during this period. Wayne DeLacey (Swimming), Greg Sullivan (Running) and Gary Suckling (Cycling).

The first AGM was held at the Jackson house, and club colours were organised; they were aqua black & magenta. The new club logo was designed by one of the inaugural committee members, Shelley Robertson.

The City Tri Club was probably the first club to boast such support by way of the sponsorship structure.

This information was provided by Warren Jackson who was the Inaugural President of the club and also the first Life Member of City Tri Club (awarded in 95/96 season).
